In our latest interview, we catch up with Cailee, one of our Sales Executives, who joined the company earlier this year and has already made a great impression. We spoke about her first few months at SMM, what she enjoys most about the role, how she approaches building her customer base, and what she thinks sets Special Metric Materials apart in a competitive industry.

Getting Started at SMM
Cailee joined SMM in January and has quickly become part of the team:
> “I’m really enjoying it so far. Everyone has been really welcoming and supportive, which makes such a difference when you’re starting somewhere new.”
Building Strong Customer Relationships
For Cailee, the highlight of her role is all about connection:
> “My favourite part is talking to my customers. Having a relationship with them is really important, and it definitely makes the days go a lot faster.”
As for a least favourite task?
> “I wouldn’t really have one yet—I don’t think I’ve been here long enough!”
Current Focus
Right now, Cailee is focused on growing her presence within the business:
> “At the moment, I’m working on building my customer base and strengthening the relationships with the accounts I’ve taken over. I’m hoping to keep growing my portfolio and continue developing within the company.”
A Day in the Office
No two days are the same, but Cailee gave us a snapshot of her routine:
> “I come in, follow up on quotes, refuel with a few biscuits, catch-up on potential orders, speak to new and existing customers, put orders through the expediting team, liaise with the warehouse team and get everything ready for the next day.”
Looking to the Future
Even in a short time, Cailee has seen what sets SMM apart:
> “From what I’ve seen so far, the future looks really promising for SMM. Everyone genuinely cares about their customers and will always go out of their way to help. That kind of attitude will take a company very far and I’m excited to see what SMM will achieve.”
A Favourite Product
When it comes to the warehouse, one product stands out:
> “I’d have to say our pulled tees. The tee drill is one of the newest additions, and customers have been really keen to start ordering manifolds and headers. It’s another great addition that will help us grow.”
What Keeps Her Motivated
A positive team culture plays a big role:
> “In a sales team such as ours, friendly competition is always a good motivator, and that goes hand in hand with having a great team around you. We look out for each other and support each other on jobs when we need to. You spend so much time at work that it’s important that you surround yourself with good people.”
Switching Off After Work
After a busy day, Cailee has a solid routine to unwind:
> “My favourite way to relax is going to the gym. An ideal evening is gym, swim, sauna… then Nando’s and TV in bed.”

Finally, we asked Cailee what she thinks makes Special Metric Materials stand out:
> “It’s obvious that SMM just keeps progressing. No matter what someone needs, we always go out of our way to help and be fair. Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen the company consistently growing and finding new ways to support customers, and not a lot of suppliers care that much so it’s a really refreshing pace of work.”
